Suggested weaning protocol for heliox inhalation therapy for bronchiolitis
Weaning either Q1 Hr or Q2 Hr
1. Wean the flow rates first: 8 LPM
6 LPM
4 LPM
2 LPM (Consider weaning FiO2 if > 30%)
1 LPM (Definitely wean FiO2 if > 30%)
Discontinue
2. Wean the FiO2 if > 30% to maintain pulse oximetry 95-99% when down to 2 LPM or less flow rates
