Helium and oxygen gas mixtures, commonly referred to as heliox, carry medications deeper and faster into the lungs when compared to oxygen or room air. This important property allows medication to get into the lungs quickly for patients with severe asthma attacks.

In K. Kim, MD, MBA is an internationally recognized leader in heliox therapies for respiratory diseases. He has published several peer-reviewed original research articles in this field and he frequently lectures on this topic. He is a peer-reviewer for several major medical journals: Pediatrics, Cochrane Database Review, Journal of Pediatrics, Respiratory Care, Pediatric Emergency Care, and Acta Paediatrica.

Dr. Kim is a tenured Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Kosair Children's Hospital, University of Louisville School of Medicine, KY, USA. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine with 17 years of experience treating pediatric patients.

His training includes: Weill College of Medicine, Cornell University, New York City, NY (MD); St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, PA (Pediatrics); Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA (Pediatric Emergency Medicine); University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business and University of Louisville School of Business (MBA).

In addition to heliox research, he has published original research in: pain reduction, pediatric bedside ultrasound, healthcare valuation, and successful culture building in medicine.

He credits his success to outstanding teachers, mentors, and collaborative research teams who inspire excellence. Amongst his favorite moments, seeing trainees of his pediatric emergency medicine training program graduate and succeed professionally while winning 5 national awards for best research at the American Academy of Pediatrics meeting over the past 10 years.
